MPG stands for Moving Picture Experts Group, which develops standards for coding audio-video information in digital compressed format. MPG files are much smaller than other video & audio coding formats for the same quality because of the very sophisticated compression technique used by MPEG.

The player can either be Windows Media Player, or Real Media Player. Be sure your player is fully upgraded.

If your video is not working due to a codec related issue, follow the steps below.

 Tips, Pointers, Suggestions, and / or Solutions
The most common codec is the DivX and XviD Codec; however the file may require a different codec if required.
Determine which codec is required for your video. You may use a tool such as AVIcodec.
Once you are aware of which codec is required, check afreeCodec.com to see if its available for download.
If the codec is not available on afreeCodec.com check the CodecLibrary for available resources.
Alternatively you can download a codec pack and in most cases your video will work. Always use this as a last resort option. Click here for more information on codec packs.
